Appropriately titled ‘Elephant in the Room’ is my musical interpretation of the metaphor, speaking to the harboring of emotions and experiences that need to be addressed, in order to be healed, “You can’t heal what you never reveal” – Jay-Z. As I wrote this song, I thought about my history as an athlete, recalled what it felt like transitioning from the runner everyone looks forward to seeing on the track, to losing the passion for the sport altogether and enduring the criticism, questioning, judgment and projection from others that came with it, most of it was purely out of love, but it was still a lot of pressure. Under that pressure I made attempts to force myself back into it, but it was akin to pumping air into slit tire. But the song isn’t entirely about that, this track represents someone choosing to air out memories and experiences that most times they’d rather not talk about, and the importance of having a support system, people around you that give you unconditional love and support your visions as you evolve and inevitably change as a human. To me, this instrumental always sounded like Museum or house cleaning music, something I could vibe to while walking through an art gallery or cleaning the house. The main intention behind this one is to inspire you to create your own safe space where you can let those elephants out, clean up your mental room and get the dust out.
